After purchasing the base dumbbell pair, Stage 1 (50 lbs), expansions are available for more weight, Stage 2 (70 lbs), and Stage 3 (90 lbs). All adjustable in 2.5 lb to 5 lb weight increments, for building strength while maintaining good form. Each stage has a compact design, to optimize your home gym’s space. Unlike the Pro 100 EXP which uses black urethane sealed weight plates, the Elite USA 90 uses welded steel plates. There are a few differences between the two plate types. The welded steel is slightly louder and is more exposed to the elements of the environment. However, they are more closely pressed together, making them more compact than the urethane plates. About Us. The original PowerBlock concept came from traditional dumbbells creating clutter in gyms. After the initial project failed, the final design of a nested weight stack with a U-shaped pin came some years later. In 1993, the first PowerBlock shop was opened in Owatonna, Minnesota.
